Mr. Lewis has spent 40 years working in Federal health care, serving in senior leadership positions within the Department of Veterans Affairs at the national, regional and local level, including the positions of Assistant Deputy Under Secretary for Health/Operations and Management and Deputy Under Secretary for Health/Operational and Management. He has lived and worked throughout the United States, Caribbean, and Pacific Basin. As the Network Director in the Veterans Integrated Service Network 20 (VISN 20), Mr. Lewis was credited with developing the first comprehensive plan for delivery of health care to veterans in the rural and frontier areas of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, coordinating the use of VA resources with public/private community, State and other Federal healthcare agencies and organizations. Retiring from Federal Service in January, 2009, Mr. Lewis, at VA’s request returned as an Independent Contractor to advise Senior Veterans Affairs leadership on rural health and Native American health care operational and organizational issues.
